Dive Into a Ranunculus Sea at the Flower Fields in Carlsbad

Last weekend we went up to Carlsbad, California, to bask in the legions of shaggy-faced ranunculus that grow at the Flower Fields. By now you know C can’t resist the urge to wax scientific — or aesthetic, or anecdotal — but today, in honor of Wordless Wednesday, she’ll let the flowers of this genius genus (which includes both the humble buttercup and the lush, double ‘Bloomingdale’) speak for themselves.

Scroll through for the action. The day also included an antique tractor ride, a truly confounding sweetpea maze, a rose garden, a chorus of snapdragons, some foxglove landscaping, a cymbidium hothouse and a patch of protea next to a tea tree.

Okay — the last thing we’ll say is this: The Flower Fields close to the public this Sunday, May 12. So after giving Mom her lovingly customized bouquet, you can also give her a whole hillside of flowers in shades of pink, red, yellow, coral, purple, white…
