14 Jun ‘Green Side Up’! Your Go-To (With Us Two) Summer Gardening Guide—and Giveaway
Gardening guides that are both comprehensive and portable — soup-to-nuts minus the Googling around — can be hard to come by. That’s why we’re holding on tight to Green Side Up, the new magazine from Meredith geared to gardeners starting out.
Whether you’re tending a balcony, rambling yard or a crop of houseplants, this 97-page edition takes you through essential topics and appealing niche projects. For example, excellent herbs to start from seed, and what to do when your seeds are struggling. When to fertilize, and when not to. Great plants for vertical gardening. (Hardy kiwi, you’re next on our list.) There’s even a “garden personality” quiz to get you matched up with one of the garden spirit guides — specializing in organic, small space, buy-it-or-hire-it and more — who provide quotes throughout the book.

We love you back! Throughout the issue, you’ll get pointers along the way from Emily Murphy, Linda Ly, Andrea Duclos and us…

You’ll find Green Side Up nationwide on magazine stands through August. The price is $9.99; as it’s more ‘bookazine’ (no ads) than magazine, the info and projects within it are timeless.

Just some light weekend reading…
You can find this magazine at the grocery story; we picked up copies at Vons. Or you can buy it here. Ryan and I were also interviewed for this issue, so you’ll also see our mugs (from the earlier BHG shoot!) and our advice about soil mixing and experimenting with light sprinkled through the pages. We’re in excellent company, including Emily “Pass the Pistil” Murphy and Linda “Garden Betty” Ly, who also provide thoughtful nuggets of advice.
For Ryan and me, it’s kind of surreal to see ourselves acting like OGs in the gardening world. When we still have lots to learn! But we’re excited to be included in this beautiful new magazine — so much so that we’re giving away 10 copies.
Want to enter for a chance to win? Just make you are signed up for our email newsletter (which we only send out every few weeks; we promise we won’t kudzu your inbox) using the box in the sidebar just below the top image on this page. When we send out the newsletter this Sunday, hit reply and name a plant, any plant, that you’d like to grow this summer. The first 10 replies will receive a copy of this smart, beautiful publication.
Our thanks to Kelly Roberson, James Baggett and Sue Miller for including us!
